House inspiration: Cozy Rustic Industrial

I don’t know what I expected when Husbie and I started the search for a house to call our own, but I definitely didn’t think it would be the roller coaster ride that we’re on right now! I’m not a big fan of roller coasters…but I’m having quite a bit of fun gathering inspiration for our new place in the meantime.

As you can see in our current living room, kitchen, office and master bedroom, Husbie and I LOVE colour and we have surrounded ourselves with it in our condo. For our next place, we’re both on the same page in wanting a bit more of a neutral palette. We’re leaning towards an aesthetic that’s “Cozy Rustic Industrial”, which to us means white walls, black and grey upholstery, wooden furniture, a dose of industrial black, with a pop of bright colour in accessories.

The key to this look is to play with plenty of textures so that the space is still warm and inviting rather than cold and stark, like many neutral spaces tend to lean towards. Think chunky knits, menswear inspired upholstery, reclaimed wood wall panelling, brick painted white, faux lambskin, white subway tile with dark grout, sparkly chandeliers, warm wooden floors,  an excess of pillows and comfortable blankets (which of course I already have), with bits of metals in black, copper or brass thrown in for good measure.

Here are a few of the inspiration photos for the main living spaces that I’m really loving and pinning lately…

Next I’ll share my inspiration for the bedrooms, office and bathrooms! I can’t wait until we find our new home so that we can make some of these ideas become reality. The dreaming is half the fun, but everyone knows I love a good project…and so I’m more excited to start DOING.
