Welcome to the kitchen and dining room! Living in a condo means that our living room, dining room and kitchen are all in one big wide open space, which Husbie and I love because we have our friends over for BBQ’s, games and socializing quite often. The boys are usually hanging out on the couches playing video games while the girls are either at the dining room table playing games or on the balcony, with wine in hand. Party segregation at its finest!
The mirror above the dining room table used to have paintings in the panels on either side of it, which I converted to chalkboards for more fun.
The crystal decanters originally belonged to my Oma, which gives them special meaning. Being huge Mad Men fans in this household, having a bar is a must! We corralled all of our bottles on a vintage silver tea-tray from my mother-in-law. I’m still learning how to make a great Manhattan for Husbie! They smell like nail polish remover to me, but Husbie loves them :)
Our entryway chair was a vintage find at the Old Strathcona Antique Mall. It was definitely an IKEA “Start the Car” moment as we found it hiding in the back of a random booth for $50. Considering most chairs at the Antique Mall are less sturdy and sell for double that, it was a GREAT find! The oversized camera poster was a gift for Husbie from a close friend.
I saved the billy balls from my wedding bouquet, and they put a smile on my face every time I see them! My collection of woodblock N’s was a 25th birthday present from my bestie, and the plate with the two fish was a gift from my mother-in-law from Egypt. The other two beautiful plates were gifted to me by my mama! It is the perfect little place to hang our keys and sunglasses, to remember them as we run out the door in the morning.
Our collection of owls are perched atop the kitchen cupboards, keeping watch over the condo. The angular one in the middle is from CB2 in New York and was nestled in a suitcase to come home with us from our honeymoon! I think the last time I counted we’ve got something ridiculous like 20 owls living in our condo in different shapes and sizes…my collection may or may not be getting out of control!
Husbie is the cook in our family, and he is a WONDERFUL cook! We own almost all of Jamie Oliver’s cookbooks, and we’ve just recently started adding to our collection with cookbooks that fit my new diet, such as “It’s All Good” by Gwyneth Paltrow, which is full to the brim of vegan and elimination diet friendly recipes.
Husbie collects bottle caps from each new beer he tries. This collection grew significantly last Christmas, when my gift to him was an advent calendar of beer! Ladies – this is seriously a much appreciated Christmas gift, you should try it for your man! 25 days of beer – can’t go wrong. What man would say no to drinking beer for 25 days in a row?
And finally, a sneak peek into our guest bathroom…the paper flags from our wedding, carried down the aisle during the Children’s Parade! A great reminder of our wedding day, and what it’s all about. Next up, a tour into our office / music room / guest room!
